Based on an article over at Search Engine Watch I’d like to just say a few words about how I think this change will affect the SEO you do for your website now and in the future.
Google use the example of Taj Mahal as a search query that may have many contextual meanings. Maybe you’re searching for THE Taj Mahal or maybe the Taj mahal indian Takeaway on your high street. Clearly these two have very different context, THE Taj Mahal would mayb e be about a holiday but Taj Mahal take away would more likely be about what you’re having to eat that evening.
So Knowledge Graph is being rolled out in the USA and then over here in the UK some time soon. I don’t have an actual date on that yet. is it going to be a good thing r a bad thing when it hits the UK?
Well as with most things in life it’ll be a little of both good and bad.
Good for all those searching and what to fine tune the context of their search results but maybe bad if google screw up on the contextual meaning of content on certain website. And that’s bad for both website owners and web searchers / users as both will ultimately suffer. If google get just one site conten tcontext wrong then you could end up seing stuff “in context’ that just should not be there while that website owner will have no control of that context.
UNLESS that is google intend to allow website owners to mark content with a context tag maybe. *Open to huge abuse* so not that likely.
What should you be doing right now to ensure that you don’t get hit massively by the change that will come in the next few months.
- Write exceptional content (how to guides over at CopyBlogger)
- Make sure that you follow the “Over Optimisation” rules
- Ensure that you get back links from relevant and in context sites (gone are the days of links from anywhere… – but you knew that anyway.)
- Employ a professional SEO on a regular basis
We’ll be running some seminars about over optimisation and Knowledge Graph over the next few months so if you’re interesting in knowing how to avoid the penalties register your interest in our free seminars by contacting us.
